I really need this feature in order to upgrade. This Post is no longer valid after Step 3. I've solved my problem. When you uninstall make sure to check the box to delete the driver.
The install will hang when it's analyzing your PC. Cancel the install, you might have to "End task" in task manager. Manually search for the drivers. Please See the "Post" about VirtualDub below. You can find instructions Here. It will ask to use your previous setup from your Windows 7 OS, ignore it and start a new setup from scratch.
Some times the TV setup data download fails just ignore it and move on. When it's done press Next. If it doesn't show any information about you signal try deleting and reinstalling your drivers again. Plug in the USB receiver back in 4. Copy the contents of the example hardware. Restart lirc from a terminal window with the following command:.
Run "irw" from a terminal and press any button on your remote. If irw does not run, reinstall the lirc package. This happened to me on an out of the box mythbuntu install.
Then return to step 5. Author's Note: In order to edit the required configuration files, you will need the appropriate permissions and a text editor.
For me, this was accomplished by running Thunar file manager with root permissions. Do this by typing sudo thunar in a terminal window. It is also recommended to backup your original lircd. This has additional benefits, namely that there is no delay in using the same button again, so you can scroll very fast. This driver sees the remote as a keyboard. This driver loaded automatically on my box, but I removed lirc first.
I don't know if that is neccesary. If you are done with the remapping, there is one more thing to do. The buttons do not yet give the right keys that MythTV understands. The one below should work, and can save you the trouble of naming all your buttons. I had to create my own but your milage may vary. To find out if we need to create one, do the following:.
Optionally you may pass --debug after the config file path if it doesn't seem to be starting right. Normal output will be:. Note the "parsing Also, if the daemon has an error reading your configuration file, it will start anyway and you'll need to kill it before you can restart it with a correct config file.
Now run irw and start pushing buttons. If nothing displays, you'll need to generate a new configuration file. If you get an error about being unable to connect to socket, your daemon didn't start or isn't started properly possibly an invalid device or configuration path.
To create a new configuration file, you'll probably want to kill the daemon first although I don't think it's required. As root, killall lircd.
Then run irrecord with a path to the new configuration file as the parameter, like:. Follow the instructions and note that when naming the control buttons, you'll want to name them to match up with what MythTV needs to process. For each "begin You can always edit either of the config files to match, so don't feel pressure to get it exact right now.
In fact, irrecord will time-out if you don't give it input in 10 seconds, so it's best to get the config file created first and then match up button names later. Now that your new configuration file is created load the daemon again as you did above, this time with the config path pointing to the new one.
Load irw and push buttons. You should see output now.
