After I got it plugged back in I threw the power switch on. I was just waiting to see the EQs and the faders to start melting and spontaneously combust. Kinda like on Aladden when Abu touches the forbidden treasure in the cave of wonders. Now, that's what I was afraid of happening to my poor EQ section. But luckily, all I got was a few minor problems like when I turn up fader 1, it effects the input level on 3.
And also, my master section is kinda messed up too. My buss assignments arn't working properly. My guess is that it has to do with the capacitors I just replaced touching the solder points on the adjacent channel. I fixed that now we'll fire it up again today and have another go at it.
Once you fit your new cap in there, trim off the access wire that is hanging out. Oh yeah make sure that the polarity is correct when you put it in. Once its in its rightful place, solder it back on there and Assuming, of course, that everything is working -- always a consideration with old boards and Carvins do not have a great reputation for reliability.
If it was in decent shape, I'd probably take it over most other boards of similar price range and age. I have this console myself. I agree with everyone. The pre-amps actually do sound good. To my ear, the top end EQ is a little to brittle and bright, again, this is my ear and my taste.
Hey Dylan, I live in Atlanta. A few years back I took the console to two different places. One guy in northeast atlanranwho rebuilt a power supply for it and re did the VU meters, then to finish the job I took it to a guy in downtown Atlanta who completely rebuilt the first 4 channels, then redid all the op-amps and a few other soldering fixes. I got lucky finding this guy in Atlanta. He took good care of me and really did a good job on the refurb.
